Summary
Theses are devoted to the study of the specifics of the method of teaching reading by Yakov Chepiga. The main features of reading by students of the New Ukrainian School are also analyzed, the specifics of the method of whole words as a method of teaching reading, proposed by a great teacher, are determined. The publication provides specific advice on how to intensify work with texts in primary school lessons.
