Summary

The New Ukrainian School forms core students competences throughout every school subject, including competences in sciences, environmental literacy and healthy lifestyle. This is done due to use of various methods, techniques and some approaches. Teachers have marked the research projects as the most effective ones because they develop student interest to sciences, deepen specific knowledge and broaden experience. The article describes the ecology project «The adaptation of Paulownia tomentosa at the research sites in general education establishments of Mykolaiv region». This project was initiated and organized by staff of the Department of Theory and Methods of Sciences, Mathematics and Information Technologies. The project, which includes planting and plant care, will definitely contribute to the teachers' competence in biology and ecology and generally to their professional development. Besides, The United Nations has proclaimed 2020 the International Year for Plant Health, confirming the relevance of the project. Particularly, in Mykolaiv Paulownia tomentosa may be alternative to poplars which are dangerous because of the pollen and allergen spores. Paulownia tomentosa enriches the local flora, it is also a useful plant (medicinal, honey, technical, energy, fodder and able to improve the air).
