Summary

This article is about training of teachers of Science and Mathematics during advanced training and afterwards in the system of postgraduate pedagogical education. Scientific researches of domestic and foreign teachers on meta-subject approach are analyzed, they define the essence of concepts: meta-subject, meta-content, meta-topic, meta-lesson, meta-result of meta-knowledge and meta-ability. The results of their research have made a scientific basis for the meta-subjects development. There are general guidelines for meta-topics selection and specific examples such as classes «Phenomena of Nature» (including Science, Mathematics ICT, Geography, Health Base). One of the meta-subject students activities is the use of content generalizing experiments, the explanation of which requires knowledge from all natural sciences (physics, chemistry, biology, astronomy) and students’ life experience. This mainly concerns issues such as the properties of water, air, diffusion phenomena, surface tension, and so on. The article presents examples of performing experiments: the atmospheric pressure and the phenomenon of diffusion using two types of cheese (made at home and at the milk factory). Emphasis is placed on the importance of the meta-subject approach in the learning process as one of the ways to ensure STEM-education, which in recent years has rapidly entered the education system of Ukraine. STEM education increases the level of knowledge integration. Prospects for the teacher training as for the meta-subject matter which helps students to perceive the world as a holistic system, are indicated.
