The article deals with the phenomenon of holiday culture and its specific features in Mykolaiv at the end of 19th – beginning 20th century. The author characterizes aspects of the social and cultural dynamic of the region, and church community influence on the celebratory atmosphere of the city. The article tells about festive leisure activities of rich social groups and role of charity and public societies in organizing holiday leisure activities for poor people of the city.
