Summary

The article considers the concepts of «education», «sciences in school education», «sciences views on the world». Scientific researches devoted to the development of school science education in Ukraine are analyzed. In particular, L. Gutsal considered the school science development on the Right Bank of Ukraine (second half of the XIX – early XX century) in her historical and pedagogical research, O. Kokhanovskaya considered genesis principles of science and mathematical education of girls in institutions of Ukraine (XIX – beginning XX century), O. Korobchenko studied the content development of domestic school sciences education (late XVIII – early XX century), N. Novikova explored forms and methods of teaching biology (XX – early XXI century), N. Borisenko studied methods of increasing students’ awareness of learning sciences (XIX – early XX century). The author of the article analyzes the periodization of the development of school sciences education, the content transformation, and methods of studying science. It was emphasized that the development of school science education depended on social, economic, political, cultural, and sectoral factors. Scholars have the distinct opinion that school science education was primarily influenced by educational reforms, achievements of natural science, and their impact on the economy of the country. Thus, science education was important not only for the formation of science as a whole but also for the formation of modern scientific views on the world, science literacy of the population. It is concluded that the study of school science education makes it possible to use the methodological potential of the past in order to organize the modern learning process in the secondary schools using the experience of predecessors.
