Summary
The these reveals the problem of introduction of new Ukrainian spelling rules (2019) in general secondary education institutions. Innovations are classified according to the main criteria: obligatory use of a token (variant and invariant), language level, system. The use of current spelling norms is commented, in particular, during the assessment of learners' language achievements and during the independent external evaluation.
